Senior Pictures - FAQs
Things to consider before, during, and after your senior portrait session:
BEFORE:
When do I need to have my Senior Pictures turned in to the yearbook staff at my school?
Some schools take a more formal Senior Portrait at school, so you don’t have to worry about the yearbook. In that case, many Seniors choose to have their own creative Senior Portraits taken by a professional photographer. Other schools require you to personally turn in a digital file by a deadline. If that’s the case, find out that date ASAP.
Where will the Senior Portraits be taken?
Do you like tall grass & fields? Barns, fences, and sky? Modern, downtown, and buildings? Water, bridges, and trees? Maybe you like a combination of all of them. Try to picture yourself and what you love…that’s where I want to photograph you. If you don’t have a specific place in mind…no worries, I’ve got plenty of ideas.
When should I schedule my senior portraits?
Fall sessions fill up for Christmas card photos and the spring fills up because everyone is so excited to see green grass again. Make sure you get your session scheduled so you get your desired time and season.
How much will the session cost?
You can find all pricing details here. Please note that payment is due in order to hold your day and time. Whether I’m photographing a senior, newborn, or family, I strive to creatively capture the true personality of the person or persons in front of my camera. This takes time. We won’t rush.
What should I wear?
My suggestion is to wear your favorite outfit(s). Usually your favorite outfit is something you look and feel great in! Just try to avoid trendy clothes. Bold colors may be distracting and draw attention away from you. Also try to avoid large flowers, stripes or patterns. Instead, aim for texture, layers, and simplicity. And don’t forget that your feet will be visible in some of the images. Not sure if you’ve got the right thing in mind? Text me pictures of your ideas or share a Pinterest board.
Makeup and hair?
If you plan to get your hair professionally styled or your makeup applied, make sure you know what you’re getting into. Perhaps schedule a trial run before the actual photo shoot date. If you need a recommendation, I do have a “hair & makeup girl”. Guys, don’t forget to shave your face the morning of your session (unless you want the scruffy look!). Blemishes? No worries. You can do your best to conceal them, but don’t sweat it…Photoshop does wonders!
DURING:
How long will it take?
You can plan on up to 60 minutes for a Senior Portrait session.
Can I bring someone along?
Sure! Sometimes it helps to have someone there to help your relax or laugh. I will be concentrating on your Senior Session, but your sister, mom, or friend are more than welcome. It’s always nice to have someone goofy standing behind me, but just warn him/her that I’ll probably put them to work!
What will we do?
When we meet at our location, we’ll chat a bit about some ideas you may have, some ideas I have, and other important details. You may be nervous, but you really don’t have to – I’m pretty easy to get along with and I’ll do my best to make you feel comfortable right away. We’ll walk around a bit to different parts of the location. I’ll stop once in a while and ask you to pose a certain way, and I’ll snap some pictures. You don’t need to be worried about what to do, how to smile, or how to stand – I’ve got you covered!
Should I bring an outfit change?
Feel free to bring 1-2 different clothing changes. Before we start photographing (or even before the shoot day itself), we’ll talk about what clothing you brought…different clothing looks best in different settings. It’s actually very helpful if we start a board on Pinterest or you send me photos of what outfit ideas you’re thinking about.
AFTER
When can I see the images?
Your images will be ready to view on an online gallery within 2 weeks of your Senior Session. When they are ready, I’ll send you an email with the link to a gallery where all of your images will be posted. It will also have instructions on how to download your 5 images and how you can purchase additional prints and other products.
Can I post images on my social media?
Yes. Remember that all of the images are copyrighted, so please do not alter them in any way (ie. adding a filter). Also, taking a screen shot of the photos and posting it will distort the high-resolution quality of the photo and will not be a good representation of my work or how great you look. Please ONLY post the high-resolution digital images. And feel free to tag me! (@CarrieFromPhotography, #CarrieFromPhotography)
When will my prints and products be ready?
If you choose to place an online order through the gallery link, your products will be delivered directly to your front door within 1-10 days, depending on the delivery speed you choose at checkout.
